What to Expect from ProStar Plumbing Sewer Line Repair
Inspection
We will first use a sewer camera inspection to determine the cause of your sewer line backup. This tool allows us to send a high-tech, waterproof video camera into your drain and accurately inspect any pipe that is underground, encased in cement, or beneath your home’s foundation. This will reveal whether your sewer line is cracked, clogged, or punctured by roots. At this point we will recommend either a trenched repair or “no-dig” trenchless sewer line repair.
Traditional Trenched Repair
The traditional trenching method is ideal for small clogs or breaks, or when it’s necessary to replace a length of collapsed or sagging pipe. A technician will locate the affected area of pipe, dig through the grass or remove flooring and wall material to access the section, then complete the repairs as necessary.
Trenchless Repair
The trenchless, or “no-dig” method requires specialised machinery that inserts a new, flexible sewer pipe liner through the existing pipe. It starts out as a flexible substrate that can be inserted around curves and bends, across holes, and through areas of corrosion. The liner is then cured and creates a hardened seal that is 100% waterproof. While this method eliminates any unsightly deconstruction to your home or yard, it requires that the majority of your existing sewer line remain intact to function as a case for the liner.

Why Sewer Line Repair is Essential for Your Home
Each year, more than 5,000 homeowners in Calgary call 311 for sewer backups and clogs. Sewer line maintenance is a critical aspect of keeping your home safe and clean — and it’s one of the most overlooked until it’s too late. Each drain in your home, from toilets and showers, to the kitchen sink, and laundry, sends wastewater to the main sewer line so it can exit your home into the city’s drainage system for proper treatment. It also ensures that any treated wastewater returned to the Bow River is safe for the surrounding fish, wildlife, property, and population.

How to Prevent Sewer Line Repairs
Pouring greasy food or cooking oils down your sink and flushing hygiene products are the leading causes of hardened debris clogs. Tree roots that have grown into or through the sewer line are another reason you may experience cracked, broken, misaligned, or collapsed sewer pipes.

Sewer Line Repair FAQs
Untreated wastewater can cause numerous issues if it re-enters your home. Contaminated waste in the kitchen sink or bathtub exposes your family to a high risk of bacterial infection. Leaks inside the line can cause erosion and cracking of your foundation or slab. Clogs in the outside line cause a pressure build-up that can crack pipes inside your home, resulting in extensive demolition as well as mould and waste remediation.
